Week Six Post: Jumping Frenchmen of Maine

Picture someone commanding you to hold your tongue. You would not react any other way than to stop talking, right? Not with a Jumping Frenchmen of Maine disorder, you would actually do as you were told if it was commanded suddenly. The first thirty-five seconds of the clip below shows an example of this disease.

Another symptom of this disease is an exaggerated startle reaction, which basically means that you would overemphasize that you got frightened compared to normal people. It is said that this is caused by a genetic mutation where it does not put a stop to signals caused from the reason a person got startled.

I would not want to have this disease. I already jump when someone sneaks up on me so reacting a couple times worse would not be too good. With this disease, I probably would not be allowed to go to a haunted house without getting a heart attack or be able to simply watch horror movies. I also would be to be afraid of people taking advantage of the fact that I would automatically respond to their commands.
