"The skin hardens, tightens and thickens. It can become so tight that it's difficult or impossible to bend the fingers or to turn the lips into a smile." This uncommon illness is known as Scleroderma.
The reason why this happens is because a body produces too much collagen. Collagen is the support that's found in every tissue and organ, so when the skin tightens and thickens, it's because layers and layers of support is being built.
It's bad enough that a person can't move when he/she has this disease, but unfortunately it can cause damage on the inside as well. For example, affected lungs lead to shortness of breath and a rise in lung blood pressure, an affected heart muscle becomes weak, an affected esophagus can lead to the difficulty of swallowing, and affected kidneys raise blood pressure and eventually can lead to the failure of filtering blood.
Scleroderma is a terrible disease and I'm thankful that I don't have to go through it like other unfortunate people. I always have to be doing something. I like doing sports, i like to travel, and i like being active, so getting a disease like this would devastate me.
"Even though there are times when I dread going to swimming practice or play an endless game of badminton, I wouldn't want that to be taken from me." I like that you incorporated this quote into your blog because other than the fact that I feel the same about swim practice some days, it shines light upon the fact that both you and me are lucky to be healthy enough to even participate in sports.
